Congratulations to sophomore Olivia Hurlburt, whose artwork has been selected to represent Congressional District #21 in the annual Congressional Art Competition! Her piece, "Adirondack Close Encounters, Bald Eagle," will be displayed for one year in the Cannon Tunnel of the United States Capitol building in Washington, D.C.
The Congressional Art Competition is a nationwide annual art contest for high school students. One winning piece from each congressional district is chosen to be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for a year-long exhibition. This year, Olivia's work was selected as the winning entry for Congressional District #21 out of hundreds of submissions from across the district.
"We are incredibly proud of Olivia and this tremendous accomplishment," said Art Teacher Mrs. Gould, "Her artwork exudes a simple, understated beauty. It's amazing to see this talent she's possessed since third grade continuing to blossom.'"
Olivia's artwork is a multimedia drawing of a bald eagle. It will join the winning pieces from other districts in a corridor leading to the U.S. Capitol, which is traveled by thousands of visitors each year.
"It's immensely gratifying to see one of our students achieve this level of recognition," said Junior/Senior High School Principal Nichole Huskie.
Since its inception in 1982, the Congressional Art Competition has served as a platform to honor and celebrate the artistic talents of America's high school students.
The exhibition of Olivia's artwork will begin in the summer of 2024 and will remain on display in the Cannon Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol until May 2025.
