news for seniors

In July 2024, the New York State Board of Regents passed an amendment to improve access to higher education. The amendment requires that each school district ensures all graduating seniors:

  • complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or, if applicable, the Jose Peralta New York State Development, Relief, and Education for Alien Minors (DREAM) Act application. OR

  • completes a waiver indicating that the parent or guardian understands what the FAFSA or the DREAM Act application is and has chosen not to file such an application.

Seniors will create an FSA ID during their individual meetings with the guidance office this month. The FSA ID is required to complete the FAFSA and will be used at our Family FAFSA Completion Session on January 21, 2025.

If seniors have a signed waiver, they should return it to the guidance office during their meeting and they will not create an FSA ID.
